The Algarve’s position gives surfers access to the exposed west coast and the more sheltered south coast. When one side becomes too large or windy, the other may offer cleaner and more manageable conditions.

Courses normally use beaches such as Amado or Castelejo, with transport, surfboard and wetsuit included during booked lessons.

The lodge is surrounded by one of Portugal’s most beautiful and least developed coastal landscapes.

Praia da Ingrina is approximately a ten-minute walk away. Continue along the coast and you can reach Zavial, a dramatic bay known for clear water, natural beauty and surf when the swell direction is right.

Sagres is around thirteen kilometres away and offers surf shops, restaurants, cafés, bars and the historic Fortaleza de Sagres. Lagos is approximately twenty-five kilometres from the lodge and works well for a day trip, boat tour or evening out.

Do I need previous surfing experience?
No. Optional surf courses are available for complete beginners, progressing surfers and more experienced guests.
Are surf lessons included in the accommodation price?
Surf lessons are normally an optional extra. Outer Reef can add a 10-hour, 13-hour or 16-hour course to your accommodation package.
What does the surf course include?
Courses include practical surf sessions, theory, transport to the selected surf spot and surfboard and wetsuit use during the booked lessons.
How large are the surf groups?
The standard surf courses state a maximum ratio of eight students to one surf instructor.
Can experienced surfers stay here?
Yes. Experienced surfers can bring or hire equipment and ask about surf guiding or local advice for the Algarve’s south and west coast breaks.

Room options can include sea-view doubles, standard double or twin rooms, four-bed sea-view rooms and modern four-bed ensuite rooms.

A car is not essential if you book surf-course transport and plan to stay around the lodge. Hiring a vehicle provides more freedom to explore Sagres, Lagos, Salema and the wider Algarve.
How far is the lodge from Faro Airport?
The lodge is approximately one hundred kilometres from Faro Airport. Transfer options may be available and should be confirmed before travel.
Are flights included?
Flights are not included. Guests arrange their own journey to Portugal.
