COURSE OPTIONS
The aim of the Sup instructor course is to accredited Sup Coaches with the competencies to effectively teach the beginner skills required for Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP).
this Sup skills manual sets out teaching keys and information for the beginner Sup rider on enclosed flat water and in waves no bigger than 0.5m. after completing the requirements set out in this module your Surf Coaching accreditation will be endorsed for either enclosed flat water SUP or SUP Surf by ISa. Only current ISA coaches (or approved equivalent) can gain endorsement with this program. as the general principles of surf coaching have already been covered in the Level 1 course, we are primarily concerned here with the skills involved in SP instruction and its safe enjoyment. as SUP develops we envisage periodic updates to this material.
SUP brings together the skills of long boarding and paddling in a very dynamic way. the SUP boards have dimensions much larger than the everyday long board and thus the technique needed to ride these boards also varies from it. Using the paddle adds another dimension to our surfing experience. Far from being an ornament, the paddle is our tool to harness and direct our new momentum to our advantage, enabling performance
beyond our expectations from our oversized equipment. as SUP is such a new and developing discipline of surfing, there are probably physical aspects of long term participation that are unknown to us at this stage. Certainly the excitement and addiction of SUP entices its new disciples to spend extended time in the water in the early stages of skill development, which will undoubtedly place heavy stress on backs, joints and muscles. this is why technique is important as a consideration in improvement and also why a managed approach to learning is essential to build
on established skills and to ensure participants are not too tired during sessions. accumulated strain
and tiredness during multiple training sessions
for participants must be identified by instructors. Sessions need to be of appropriate duration and interval to ensure students are able to learn and demonstrate skills before they become tired.
