Check out what our partners at the National Trust have written about Freshwater West and learning to Surf at this amazing spot.

With consistent swell and strong waves, Freshwater West is regarded as one of Wales’ top surfing spots. It’s no surprise then that the southwesterly facing beach is the annual host venue of the Welsh National Surfing Championships.

The coast here does have strong rip currents, so is for the more experienced surfer and swimmer. If you do want to learn to surf here then we advise using a local outdoor activity provider with the right equipment and experience to help you enjoy this special place safely and responsibly.

Our activity partner, Outer Reef Surf School are based in the main beach car park and at Gupton Farm activity base, have a chat with the team or visit their website for more information on learning to surf sessions at Freshwater West.

Please note, lifeguards are on duty here between early June and September only.
